Web accessibility doesn't work as an afterthought. You can't retrofit an existing design to make it fully accessible if it has been designed without any consideration for users with different requirements.

That's why we offer our services in a consultative role; involve us in your design process from the earliest possible stages, and your sites will be much more accessible than if you try to retrofit access considerations as an afterthought.

Accessibility isn't just about HTML coding; it considers the colours, layout, presence of features such as searching, site maps and navigation bars. It considers copywriting and the use of illustrations to support written content. It comes from removing barriers to access, and from making the site do the job it's meant to in as simple and straightforward a way as possible.

So, unless your team is already totally familiar with information architecture issues and web accessibility, you might want to think about retaining our services at the start of the project and for its duration. It isn't that expensive, and can greatly improve the quality of the finished site. Ideally, through working with us on a couple of projects your team will be able to do more of this themselves, and we'd expect our involvement to be required less as time goes on and your team grow their skills.
